New Director and Publisher for the University of Alberta Press

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE / August 25, 2017

Edmonton, AB – The University of Alberta warmly welcomes Douglas Hildebrand as the new Director and Publisher of the University of Alberta Press (UAP), as of October 10, 2017.

Dr. Kathleen DeLong, Interim Vice-Provost & Chief Librarian at the University of Alberta, stated that “Mr. Hildebrand brings a blend of editorial and sales/marketing experience in a Canadian university press environment. This will serve UAP well as the Press contributes substantively to our institution’s mission, its national and international reputation, and the impact of its research and teaching by means of a diverse and far-ranging scholarly publication program that is recognized for excellence in scholarship and publishing.”

Photo of Douglas HildebrandMr. Hildebrand is currently an Acquiring Editor for Social Sciences at the University of Toronto Press and previously served as their Sales and Marketing Manager. As an acquiring editor, Mr. Hildebrand broadened lists in Indigenous Studies, Sociology, Anthropology, Urban Studies / Geography, Education, and Gender Studies. He distinguished himself by building an urban studies list that is amongst the strongest in North America.

“The work we do in university press publishing is essential to the fabric of academia. I have long admired the work of my counterparts at UAP, who have produced books which rival the very best in Canadian scholarship. The Press has a strong commitment to academic excellence,” says Hildebrand.

The University of Alberta thanks outgoing Director, Ms. Linda Cameron, for her sixteen years of leadership of UAP and wishes her well in her retirement from scholarly publishing. Ms. Cathie Crooks will be serving as Interim Director until Mr. Hildebrand takes the reins.
