“Grads” Receive Plenty of Media Coverage

The Grads Are Playing Tonight! has been receiving a lot of well-deserved attention in the media. After all, it was the Edmonton Grads that put Edmonton on the map as “The City of Champions” and this is the first book documenting their success. Kudos to the author, M. Ann Hall!

The buzz about basketball started with the opening of the GO Centre which Edith Stone Sutton, one of the two surviving Grads, attended in September 2011. Did you know that the G in GO stands for the Grads?

Check out the array of articles and interviews below:

• CTV News at Noon Edmonton interview on Dec. 30, 2011.

• Global TV interview, December 21, 2011 (Evening News, 6:55 pm).

• Team 1260 Sports Radio interview, The Jason Gregor Show, December 22, 2011 (2:45 pm).

• CBC Edmonton AM interview with Rick Harp and Lydia Neufeld, January 31, 2012.

• Article in the Edmonton Journal, December 21, 2011: “Grads first team to put Edmonton on the map/Women’s basketball squad a world powerhouse in its run from 1915-40” (Sports, D6).

•  Article in The Gateway, January 18, 2012: “A bright history of Edmonton women’s basketball in Grads book.”

• Geoff McMaster’s piece on the Grads ran in the U of A’s signature spotlight.

• Cover story of Vue Weekly, January 19-25 with an article by Samantha Powers: “The Game Must Go On: The Edmonton Grads changed the way basketball was played”.

Globe & Mail piece online by Tom Hawthorn, January 29, 2012: “90-year-old tells the tales of women’s basketball legends”.

And that is not all! The National Post and the Vancouver Sun expressed interest in The Grads Are Playing Tonight!, and Ann had an interview scheduled with Liz Katynski for Prairie Books NOW.
